LONDON: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan will welcome Commonwealth’s partnership in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to be established under the multi-billion dollar China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

While addressing the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ meeting in London, Qureshi said that the CPEC project provides a platform for sustainable development.

The foreign minister said that Pakistani government is pursuing pro investment and pro-business policies. He said that Pakistan is an emerging market with a population of about 200 million people.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan is fully cognizant of the challenge posed by Climate Change and has set the target of planting 10 billion trees in five years.

The minister also briefed the Commonwealth meeting about the steps taken by Pakistan for protection of rights of women and minorities.

In addition, he pointed out that Pakistan has been hosting millions of Afghan refugees over the last many decades.

Qureshi said that Pakistan has registered unprecedented successes in the war on terrorism. He said that we have a National Action Plan (NAP) to defeat terrorism and extremism.

The foreign minister also told that concrete steps have been taken to check money laundering and terror financing.
