ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the Captured Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan would be treated humanely in accordance with the Geneva Conventions, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

The foreign minister said that the Indian attack was in gross violation of the international law. He said that Pakistan had responded in self defence from within its own airspace.

Nevertheless, Pakistan wishes to de-escalate the situation and is ready to engage in dialogue, he added.

Qureshi urged the UK side to play its due role in bringing down tensions between Pakistan and India.

Jeremy Hunt expressed concern at the current situation in South Asia, and encouraged both Pakistan and India to show restraint and de-escalate.

The two foreign ministers agreed to continue consultations and work together for diffusing tensions.
