MULTAN, Pakistan: Pakistan will raise the issue of flying anti-Pakistan banners and scuffles during the Pak-Afghan Cricket World Cup 2019 Match at Leeds on June 29, the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told media on Monday.

Talking to media representatives in Multan, Qureshi voiced concerns over the incident, and said that whatever happened after the Pak-Afghan Match in England was improper and immoral.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that using sports for such malicious propaganda is unacceptable. He also demanded a probe, saying that those responsible must be brought to book.

Last Saturday, Pakistan beat Afghanistan by three wickets in 36th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. After the match, the dejected and enraged Afghan supports involved in a scuffle with Pakistani fans and also made failed attempts to attack Pakistani team. However, the ICC Security Officials acted swiftly and nabbed a couple of Afghan hooligans.

Earlier in a statement, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal also expressed deep concern over the flying of anti-Pakistan banners, unruly conduct of certain group of spectators towards Pakistan team players and scuffles during the Pakistan-Afghanistan World Cup Cricket match.

Dr Mohammad said that the use of sports venues for such malicious propaganda is unacceptable.

“We expect all relevant authorities, both sports and law enforcement, to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring those responsible to account,” he said.

The Spokesperson also said that the matter is also being taken up through diplomatic channels.
