Foreign OfficePakistan strongly denounces Helmand car bombing

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has strongly condemned the heinous suicide car bomb attack outside a Sports Stadium in Afghanistan’s Southern Helmand Province.

On Friday, a suicide car bomb blast went off outside the Ghazi Muhammad Ayub Khan Stadium in Helmand’s Lashkar Gah City while a Wrestling Match was underway, killing at least 14 people and injuring 40 others.

“We are grieved at the loss of precious and innocent lives in this brutal act of terrorism (in Helmand),” said a statement issued by the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Saturday.

“We express our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” it said.

The statement added that Pakistan reiterates its unequivocal condemnation of terrorism in all forms and manifestations and expresses solidarity with the government and people of Afghanistan in this hour of grief and sorrow.

“The bomber wanted to go inside the stadium but he was identified by the police and he detonated himself,” the Spokesman for the Helmand Provincial Governor, Omar Zwak, was quoted as saying by a foreign news agency.
