ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan on Wednesday strongly condemned terrorist attacks on the Iranian Parliament and Mausoleum of founder of Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatullah Khomeini in Tehran.

Earlier in the day, at least 12 persons were killed while 39 others sustained injuries in two separate terrorist attacks on the Iranian Parliament building and mausoleum of Ayatullah Khomeini in Tehran. The Islamic State IS known as Daesh claimed responsibility.

“The Government of Pakistan has strongly condemned today’s terrorist attacks on Iranian Parliament and mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in which, reportedly, precious lives of innocent people have been lost,” said a statement issued by the Foreign Office in Islamabad.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Iran in their hour of grief,” the statement said.

“We offer our deep condolences to the people of Iran, the Government, and the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

The statement further said that Pakistan condemns terrorism, which is a global phenomenon and common challenge, requiring resolute and coordinated approach to deal with the menace.

The Iranian media reports said that a group of people burst into Khomeini’s Mausoleum and opened fire. Meanwhile, two suicide bombers including a female also blew themselves up.
