Foreign OfficePakistan satisfied with US’s action against Fazlullah in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office said on Thursday said it was a matter of satisfaction that the United States was taking actions against the terrorists hiding inside Afghanistan including Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Chief Mullah Fazlullah.

“More needs to be done,” the Foreign Office Spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal said in his opening remarks at the weekly media briefing in Islamabad.

Dr Faisal said Pakistan had been consistently reminding its US interlocutors about series of successful military operations undertaken by the armed forces of Pakistan in the border areas with Afghanistan. “These operation are based on intelligence,” he said.

The Spokesman said Pakistan’s unflinching resolve to fight the menace of terrorism till its logical conclusion had been recognized, as it was in Pakistan’s interest as much as that of the others.

“Pakistan will continue to support efforts for bringing peace in Afghanistan,” he said.

Talking about Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s visit to the US, the Spokesman said while taking advantage of his presence in Washington where he was on a private visit, the prime minister met the US Vice President Mike Pence – which was the second interaction between the two since the unveiling of the US policy on South Asia in August 2017.

The Foreign Office Spokesman said the meeting between Khaqan Abbasi and Mike Pence provided an opportunity to exchange views on Pak-US bilateral relations, the regional situation and Afghanistan. He said the conversation was important to build trust & cooperation and to strengthen bilateral relations.
