Foreign OfficePakistan regrets Indian decision to postpone upcoming Kartarpur meeting

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: India has postponed the upcoming talks with Pakistani Officials on Kartarpur Corridor on April 2, which had to discuss and find a consensus on outstanding issues, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

Meanwhile in a tweet, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal regretted the Indian decision to postpone the upcoming Kartarpur meeting.

Dr Faisal said that the last minute postponement by India without seeking views from Pakistan and especially after the productive technical meeting on March 19 is incomprehensible.

The next round of talks on Kartarpur Corridor was to be held at Wagah on April 9 as per the understanding reached by two sides, when they met at Wagah-Attari border on March 14 for the first meeting and agreed to work expeditiously towards operationalization of the project.

Earlier in another tweet, Dr Faisal also welcomed the Indian media for the coverage of Kartarpur Corridor meeting on April 2, and asked them to approach the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi for visas.

However, the Indian government didn’t reciprocate to Pakistani’s positive gesture, and made a unilateral decision to postpone the scheduled meeting.

It is also worth noting that India didn’t issue visas to Pakistani journalists for the first round of talks on Kartarpur Corridor on March 14.

The technical experts of Pakistan and India also met on March 19 at the Zero Point of the Kartarpur Corridor, wherein they discussed the technical details including finished road level, high flood level etc.

The two sides agreed on some technical aspects/ details and expressed the hope to finalize the other modalities at the earliest.
