Pakistan has been re-elected to the United Nations Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations and to the Executive Board of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

In a press release issued in Islamabad on Tuesday, the Foreign Office said that Pakistan was re-elected today to the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (CNGO) for the term 2019-22 during elections held in New York.

Pakistan was one of the four Countries elected to this important body in a contested election within the Asia Pacific region.

“This election is a strong reaffirmation by the international community of both, Pakistan’s strong credentials within the multilateral arena and a strong vote of confidence in Pakistan’s substantial contribution to the work of CNGO at the UN and beyond. This win is also an endorsement of Pakistan’s constructive leadership in this important area and its role as an ardent advocate of dialogue and cooperation,” the Foreign Office said.

Since its establishment, Pakistan has served on the Committee on various occasions and has been a continuous member of the Committee for over a decade. During this period, Pakistan has led the Committee as its Chair and Vice-chair on various occasions.

Pakistan will continue to proactively engage with the Committee members, prospective non-governmental organizations and with other relevant stakeholders. In doing so, Pakistan will continue to call for adherence to the principles of impartiality, dialogue and cooperation that should guide the work of this Committee.

Pakistan was also successfully elected today to the Executive Board of UNICEF in another substantiation and recognition of the strong credentials of Pakistan within the multilateral system.
