ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have conveyed their heartiest felicitations to Vladimir Putin on his re-election as the Russian president.

The 65-year-old Vladimir Putin overwhelmingly won the Presidential elections held in Russia on March 18, extending his rule over the World’s largest Country for another six years.

“Pakistan and Russia enjoy close, friendly and cooperative relations. Our relations are characterized by mutual trust and convergence of views on important international and regional issues,” said a joint statement of President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi issued by the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The statement said that the leadership of Pakistan looks forward to working closely with the leadership of the Russian Federation to further strengthen cooperation in all fields of mutual interest.

Securing a victory with 76.68 percent of the vote, it was Vladimir Putin’s biggest ever win and the largest by any post-Soviet Russian leader.
