Foreign OfficePakistan, India begin Kartarpur Corridor talks at Attari

WAGAH, Pakistan: The Pakistan-India bilateral dialogue to negotiate the agreement on Kartarpur Corridor has begun at Attari Complex in India on Thursday morning.

The Pakistani delegation is being led by the Foreign Office Spokesperson and the Director General for South Asia and SAARC Dr Mohammad Faisal.

Simultaneously, a Session of Technical Experts of Pakistan and India is also being held at Attari to discuss the issues relating to Kartarpur Corridor, its construction, road, and other technicalities.

Pakistan has already sent the draft agreement of Kartarpur Corridor to India.

Earlier on November 28 last year, the groundbreaking of four-kilometer long Kartarpur Corridor was performed by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The Kartarpur Corridor will connect Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur area of Pakistani Punjab’s Narowal District with Dera Baba Nanak in India’s Gurdaspur District.

Meanwhile, talking to the media persons at Wagah border prior to leaving for Attari, Dr Mohammad Faisal expressed the confidence that the dialogue on Kartarpur Corridor can be a step forward in the right direction in the current vitiated situation from conflict to cooperation, animosity to peace and enmity to friendship.

The Spokesperson said that Pakistan agreed to the Indian proposal of meeting at Attari in-line with its sincere efforts to deescalate the situation for regional peace and stability. He said that Pakistan is moving forward with the spirit of constructive engagement and flexibility.

Dr Faisal said that the opening of Kartarpur Corridor was a longstanding demand of the Sikhs Community and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initiative is reflective of the importance that Pakistan gives to all its minorities.

The Foreign Office Spokesman said that the Kartarpur Corridor project will facilitate the Sikhs especially from India to visit their religious sites.

The Indian delegation will also visit Pakistan for Kartarpur talks on March 28.
