Foreign OfficePakistan has built 975 Check Posts on Afghan border: Foreign Office

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office on Friday said Pakistan had constructed 975 Check Posts along its border with Afghanistan while Afghanistan had built nearly 200 Posts only.

In his weekly media briefing in Islamabad, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal reiterated Pakistan would never allow its soil to use it against another Country for terrorism.

“Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and stand with World to eradicate this menace,” he added.

Dr Faisal said blaming Pakistan for insurgency in Afghanistan was unfair as Afghanistan itself had large swathes of ungoverned spaces that were leaving a vacuum for safe havens and terrorist sanctuaries. He said endless cycle of violence was consistent enemy of Afghanistan and peace in the region could not be achieved until ungoverned places in Afghanistan were dealt with properly.

“These ungoverned areas are used to flourish and launch attacks on Pakistan”, he said.

The Spokesperson said peace in Afghanistan could only be achieved through an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned management.

“It is totally up to Afghanistan to reckon how to tackle insurgent groups within its area”, he added.

Replying to a question, he said Afghan authorities had shared intelligence regarding recent Kabul attacks and after looking into it they would get back to them.

“Effective border management remains one of our prime objectives in preventing cross-border terrorism,” he said.

Replying to another question, Dr Faisal said Pakistan wanted long standing diplomatic, economic and social relationship with every Country including the United States, adding whatever the difficulties both Countries were having at the moment would be sorted out eventually. However, he reiterated, Pakistan must not be blamed for US’s failure in Afghanistan.

The Spokesperson said Pakistan shared intelligence with more than 70 Countries. He said Pakistan was ready to push any suspected Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA) and Haqqani Network (HN) elements to prevent them from using its soil for any terrorist activity in Afghanistan.

In addition, he said Pakistan wanted immediate and dignified return of Afghan refugees to their Country and the International Community must play its due role in the repatriation process.
