Pakistan FM felicitates Vladimor Norov on his appointment as New SCO Secretary General

BEIJING, China: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has congratulated Vladimor Norov on assuming the post of new Secretary General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

In this regard, the Additional Secretary and National Coordinator of Pakistan for SCO Zahoor Ahmed met Vladimor Norov on the sidelines of the Meeting of the Council of National Coordinators at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing, and handed him over a letter of Shah Mehmood Qureshi congratulating the new SCO secretary general on assuming his post.

In the letter, the foreign minister also appreciated Vladimor Norov’s accomplishment and said that his appointment reflects the confidence of member states in him for the further development of the organization.

The foreign minister also invited Vladimor Norov to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

The SCO secretary general acknowledged Pakistan’s active and positive participation in SCO activities and assured his full support in advancing SCO’s agenda and priorities.

Both agreed that SCO has become an important organization which was set to play a significant and constructive role in the field of security, economy and people-to-people ties both at the regional and global level.

Vladimor Norov is an experienced diplomat from Uzbekistan who remained the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan during 1995-1996. He assumed the post of the Secretary General SCO on January 1, 2019.
