ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has assured the United States of Pakistan’s steadfast support for a negotiated settlement for Afghan peace and stability, the Dispatch New Desk (DND) news agency reported.

The assurance was conveyed by the foreign minister in a meeting with the US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Zalmay Khalilzad reiterated the US President Donald Trump’s desire to seek Pakistan’s cooperation for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Earlier in a letter written to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Donald Trump acknowledged that the Afghan war had cost both the United States and Pakistan, and sought Islamabad’s support and facilitation to resolve the issue.

The US Special Envoy for Afghanistan also held a meeting with the Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua today in Islamabad and discussed the peace and political settlement in Afghanistan.

Officials from diplomatic, security and defense from both sides were present at the meeting.
