ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The European Union’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Ambassador Roland Kobia called on the Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua in Islamabad on Thursday, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the ongoing efforts for peace in Afghanistan.

The foreign secretary reiterated Pakistan’s continued commitment to peace in the region and a peaceful neighborhood. She underlined that peace and stability in Afghanistan was crucial for Pakistan.

Tehmina Janjua emphasized that Pakistan had facilitated talks between the US and Taliban in good faith and as part of shared responsibility. She expressed the hope that these talks would lead to intra-Afghan dialogue. She appreciated the positive role of EU in Afghanistan and underscored the importance of working with the EU for peace and development in Afghanistan.

The EU’s Special Envoy emphasized the significance of peace and stability in Afghanistan for EU as much as for neighboring countries and in this regard appreciated Pakistan’s important contribution towards peace efforts. He added that an opportunity was available today that must not be missed at any cost.

Ambassador Roland Kobia is on a two-day visit to Islamabad from March 14-15, 2019.
