ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said that China will support Pakistan to eliminate the poverty, hoping that the cooperation between the two Countries will help meet the desired objectives.

While addressing a Joint Press Conference along with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi after the two sides held talks in Islamabad on Saturday, Wang Yi said that it was a positive meeting with his Pakistani Counterpart.

Wang Yi said that Pak-China friendship is unprecedented, and Beijing wants to strengthen its bilateral relations with Pakistan.

Qureshi said that Wang Yi is an old friend of Pakistan, adding that his efforts for strengthening of bilateral cooperation between both the Countries are commendable. He said that friendship with China is cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has invited Prime Minister Imran Khan to China in November while Pakistan also invited the Chines President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang in Pakistan.

In addition, he said that completion of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project is the priority of our government.

Earlier in the morning, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Wang Yi held a one-on-one meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.

Later the delegation level talks followed, in which an in-depth exchange of views were exchanged on the entire gamut of Pak-China bilateral relationship including economic cooperation, CPEC, defence cooperation and cultural & educational cooperation as well as regional situation.

While reaffirming the “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership” between the two Countries, Wang Yi underlined that Pakistan will always be a priority for China in its foreign policy.

The Chinese State Councilor reiterated that Pakistan was China’s “Iron brother” and the bilateral partnership served as an anchor for regional peace and stability. He said that China will work with Pakistan to prioritize CPEC projects so as to benefit all regions of Pakistan.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi reciprocated the sentiments of the State Councilor, and reaffirmed the strategic cooperative partnership between the two Countries. He underlined that regardless of political changes, the bilateral relationship will remain as strong as ever.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the significance of CPEC for the socio-economic development of Pakistan, and stressed that it will always remain a national priority for Pakistan.

The two sides expressed their convergence that social economic development will be an important area under CPEC cooperation between Pakistan and China.
