ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 281 Pakistani prisoners are imprisoned in Turkish Jails as of March 2019, the Senate has been told.
The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Hussain Qureshi told the House in written reply to a question by Senator Rana Mahmood Ul Hassan, some of Pakistani prisoners in Turkish jails have been convicted and awarded a sentence, whereas others are still undergoing trial.
The foreign minister apprised that in addition to the prisoners, there are around 2396 Pakistanis detained in Turkish Detention Centers across Turkey on account of illegal immigration to Turkey.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that this number keeps on varying according to the number of illegal Pakistanis entering Turkey during a certain period.
In addition, Qureshi also told the House in response to a question by Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi that according to the information provided by our Embassy, the Pakistanis living in Turkey do not face any difficulty in getting their passports renewed by the Embassy of Pakistan in Ankara or the Consulate General of Pakistan in Istanbul.
Qureshi said that necessary requirements for renewal of passport are clearly given on the Embassy’s website. He said that the applicants can visit the website and accordingly bring necessary documents for renewal of the passports.
The minister further told that the procedure in place appears to be working quite well; however, the Mission is working to further improve its service delivery.
