ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A ceremony was held at the Foreign Ministry in Islamabad to pay tribute to (late) ambassador Jamsheed K. Marker, who passed away on June 21, 2018 in Karachi at the age of 95.

The Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (Retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

   

The Foreign Minister Abdullah Hussain Haroon welcomed the guests, which included President Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Sardar Masood Khan, members of the Cabinet, diplomatic corps and retired ambassadors.

Speaking at the occasion, Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk said that ambassador Jamsheed Marker was a seasoned professional, whose acumen and ability to find solutions to complex challenges was globally acknowledged and appreciated.

The prime minister said that Jamsheed Marker was one of the Country’s most distinguished diplomats, who contributed tirelessly in promoting Pakistan’s national interest.

The President AJK Sardar Masood Khan opined that Jamsheed Marker was among the country’s finest Ambassadors, who has left behind a legacy of powerful and effective diplomacy.

The foreign minister eulogized Ambassador Jamsheed Marker as an exemplary diplomat and a human being, who ‘lived and died for Pakistan’.

The Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua said that the ambassador Jamsheed Marker practiced the art of diplomacy with sophistication and calmness, even in the midst of strife and discord.

Tehmina Janjua said that the late Ambassador would be immensely missed by the foreign office fraternity and the people of Pakistan. She also paid tribute to senior foreign office colleagues who passed away recently.

Also speaking on the occasion, Nilofer Marker Reifler, daughter of the late ambassador thanked the Foreign Office for paying tribute to her father. She also reminisced about his services in the field of diplomacy.

To mark the occasion, the prime minister also unveiled the plaque of the Jamsheed Marker Conference Room at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
