ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed sorrow over the sad demise of the prominent Kashmiri leader Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl.

In a statement on X on Saturday, the ministry said that Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl was an academic, scholar, and ardent advocate of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

“May his soul rest In peace. Our condolences to his family and friends,” the ministry said.

The 77-year-old Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, a prominent figure in the struggle for the right of self-determination in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), breathed his last on Friday in London following a brief illness.

Professor Shawl was admitted to a hospital in London due to serious illness on December 23. He was suffering from chest infection and kidney problems.
