War against terrorism needs complete unity: Nisar

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday cautioned war against terrorism is going to be a long-drawn war, needing complete unity in the ranks of nation.

In his address at a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday evening, the interior minister said that every segment of the society including media has a role to play addressing the challenge of extremism, terrorism and militancy.

Prior to the press conference, the interior minister presided over two meetings with representatives of seminaries and political parties.

The minister while informing the media representatives about the meetings said that administrators of religious seminaries belonging to all schools of thought have vowed to support the anti-terror national action plan adopted in wake of Peshawar army public school attack last month.

Nisar said that the meetings adopted resolution strongly condemning publication of blasphemous caricatures by a French satirical magazine in the name of freedom of expression and media.

The resolution noted that the civilized and democratic world by extending support to those who ridicule Islam and its reverend personalities, are adding fuel to the problem of terrorism and extremism, the minister told.

The interior minister also rejected the impression that two political parties have any reservations to the national action plan against terrorism and said representatives of both Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) were present in today’s meeting.

Chaudhry Nisar said that all political parties and representatives of seminaries once again declared that they are solidly standing by the nation in the war against terrorism.
