US vows continued counter-terrorism support for Pakistan

WASHINGTON: The Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan held a meeting with the White House National Security Advisor Susan Rice in Washington.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations, efforts for regional stability and the need to align support for Afghan reconciliation.

Both the sides agreed to continue working together as partners against the threat of terrorism.

The advisor assured the interior minister that the United States would continue its support for Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate terrorism.

Susan Rice commended the resolve of the leadership and people of Pakistan to deal with terrorism in a comprehensive manner.

The interior minister apprised Susan Rice about the ongoing military operations against terrorists and steps being taken in follow up to the national action plan to eliminate terrorism.

Pakistan more committed to fight against terror than other countries: Nisar

Meanwhile, speaking at a panel discussion in Washington, the interior minister said that Pakistan has shown more commitment to the fight against terrorism than other countries in the region.

The minister said that Pakistan is implementing a comprehensive strategy to win war against extremism and terrorism.

Nisar said that Pakistan is currently engaged in a comprehensive national effort to evolve an effective response against terrorism and extremism. He called for looking into factors for radicalization which is causing violent extremism.

The interior minister said that resilience should be built against extremist ideologies and not against religions and identities.

Chief of the Air Staff expressed his gratitude for the honour of receiving the Bahrain Medal - First Class. On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
