ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The United States and Afghanistan aim at further strengthening their relations with Pakistan, the two Countries’ envoys told Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday.

Earlier the US ambassador to Pakistan David Hale held a meeting with the prime minister in Islamabad and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.

“It was agreed that the decades long relations between Pakistan and the US should be further strengthened through multifaceted engagement,” said a statement issued by the PM Office following the meeting.

The prime minister, during the meeting with the US envoy, emphasized the importance of engagement between Pakistan and the United States to pursue common objectives and issues of mutual interest.

In a separate call-on by the Afghan ambassador to Pakistan Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, the prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s commitment for peace and stability in the region and particularly in Afghanistan.

The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s support for Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process.

The Afghan ambassador congratulated the prime minister on his assumption of Office.

Omar Zakhilwal conveyed the commitment of the Afghan government to work for furthering bilateral relations between the two Countries that have significant historical, cultural, economic and political linkages.
