UK general elections to be held on Thursday

LONDON: The people of the United Kingdom will vote on Thursday to elect members of the country’s 56th Parliament; however, it is expected that the general elections will not witness high turnout.

The election campaign, which kicked off on May 30 after the Parliament was dissolved by the British Queen Elizabeth II on the request of Prime Minister David Cameron, will ended on Wednesday.

Though there are multiple parties which are participating in the UK general elections 2015 but a close fight is expected between the right-wing Conservatives and the center-right Labour.

However, neither of these two major parties seem to gain a parliamentary majority, therefore whosoever wins more number of seats will have to make a coalition with one of the smaller parties to form a government.

The newly-elected Speaker of the House of Commons and the Parliamentarians will be sworn-in on May 18 while the State Opening of the Parliament will take place on May 27.
