Uber – the go to taxi calling app that is renowned worldwide for its fast service is finally setting its sight to launch its services in Lahore, Pakistan.
Now, I do know that Uber is by no means a unique concept in a city like Lahore which already houses similar app based taxi call services such as Careem. However, the launch of Uber will not only promote healthy competition but will also create more avenues in terms of job opportunities and faster transportation.
Of course, one can counter this by stating that Uber will only add to the city’s traffic load and would only give a service that isn’t really needed but that argument on a closer inspection is flawed. Yes, while it is true that most of the target audience of the app might already have a personal means of transportation but that still isn’t enough to diminish the necessity of this service.
Consider this: you will finally be able to go to the busiest streets in town without having to worry about parking space or even drive home from the airport at ungodly hours without disturbing your loved ones, all in a secure and fast cab.
The only other fear most people have about using Uber is about the security of the service, which to be honest should be a genuine concern considering the current state of our country. Yes, there is no denying that they have been working day by day to improve safety measures and so far Uber is one of the safest option to travel. Adding more into it I think it would be a wise option to consider an international company to travel rather than local taxi drivers.
In all honesty, Uber is and continues to be far safer than any random Rickshaw or Taxi you might stop on the street. I, personally, am glad that they have finally decided to launch their services in Pakistan as I was quite impressed with their quality of service in Europe and hope that they will not only follow those set standards but also manage to raise the bar.
