Turkish parliament approves troops deployment inside Qatar

Monitoring Desk: Turkish Parliament has approved deployment of troops inside Qatar, reports TRT news.

Under the bill passed by Turkish Parliament on Wednesday evening, the armies of the two countries will also be able to carry out joint exercises.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday telephoned Saudi King a bid to resolve tension between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. He also discussed the issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Erdogan is trying to resolve tension in Middle East but his attempts look futile so he moved ahead for deployment of forces inside Qatar”, commented Turkish media.

Meanwhile, Turkish exporters start sending food items and bottled water supplies to Qatar to deal with possible shortages of food items.

Turkey signed a troop deployment deal with Qatar in April 2016 and now Parliament has given approval for immediate deployment of Turkish troops inside Qatari soil.

It may be mentioned that five Arab countries headed by Saudi Arabia including Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Yemen cut diplomatic, social and economic ties with Qatar for its alleged support to terrorist outfits like Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood while Qatar denied the accusations, calling the move “unjustified”.

It may be mentioned that Turkey established a military base in Qatar under an agreement signed in 2014.
