TTP Shura decides no extension in ceasefire: spokesman

PESHAWAR: The Shura of the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has unanimously decided against extension of the ceasefire, the TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said on Wednesday.

The terror outfit announced a month-long ceasefire with the government on March 1, 2014 but later extended it for 10 days. However, the extension expired on April 10 and since then the TTP Shura had been meeting to decide the future of peace talks and the ceasefire.

In a statement, TTP spokesman said that the government did not give satisfactory response to Taliban’s 40-day ceasefire, adding their 50 detained members were killed during this time period.

The TTP spokesman said the decision about not extending ceasefire was taken at the Taliban Shura meeting.

However, he said that if the government takes any serious step, the TTP will respond it.

Moreover, the TTP Mohmand Agency chief Umer Khalid Khurrsani also issued a statement in which he said that government is not serious about peace and the only way to implement true Shariah is jihad.
