Elections 2013Three more PPP candidates disqualify from election race

SUKKUR/KARACHI/LAHORE: Three candidates of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) were declared ineligible to contest polls by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

PPP’s former Sindh ministers Syed Murad Ali Shah (PS73 Dadu), Nadir Magsi (PS-40 Qambar Shahdadkot) and Syed Asif Hashmi (NA-118) were declared ineligible by ECP’s Election Tribunals after their nomination papers were rejected.

The tribunals in Karachi, Sukkur and Lahore kept the decision of Returning Officer intact.

Returning Officer had rejected Hashmi’s nomination papers on a plea that he was the Chairman of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) and the mandatory period of 2 years has not passed after leaving the post.

Sindh High Court’s tribunal in Karachi declared PPP’s Syed Murad Ali Shah over his dual nationality. In Sukkur, the election tribunal axed PPP’s Nadir Magsi.

Former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has also been disqualified for contesting election from NA-51 over his involvement in Rental Power Case.

Meanwhile, Balochistan High Court suspended the two-year jail term of former Provincial Minister Ali Maddad Jattak in fake degree case.
