Three-member judicial commission formed to probe 2013 poll rigging

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A three-member Judicial Commission has been formed on Wednesday to investigate rigging allegedly carried out in May 2013 general elections.

The commission is headed by the Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk and comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan.

The judicial commission will hold its first meeting on Thursday (April 9) at the Supreme Court building in Islamabad.

It came after President Mamnoon Hussain on April 3 issued an ordinance for setting up a judicial commission on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for setting up a judicial commission that will investigate allegations of rigging in 2013 general elections.

In his response after the PTI Chairman Imran Khan came to know about the formation of the judicial commission during a press conference in Hyderabad, congratulated his party members and the nation on this landmark achievement.
