MOSCOW, Russia: Russia has said that it seems that terrorism is spreading in the Middle East region and also offered its help to Saudi Arabia in the fight against terror.
“The Abha bombing is yet another evidence [that] the wave of terrorism, triggered by extremist organizations, is sweeping the region of the Middle East,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
On Thursday, more than a dozen people were killed when a suicide blast struck a mosque which belonged to special emergency forces in Abha, the capital of Saudi Arabia’s southwestern Asir province.
The militant group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.
The Russian ministry called for concerted action by regional countries and the entire international community to curb terrorism.
In addition, it also expressed Russia’s willingness to render necessary assistance to Saudi Arabia in the fight against terror.
“Only concerted action by countries of the region and the entire international community can overpower this ill,” the Russian foreign minister said.
“For its part, Russia is prepared to extend the necessary assistance to Saudi Arabia in the struggle against terrorism.”
