KARACHI: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali announced on Wednesday that a targeted operation would be launched in Karachi in a couple of days.
Flanked by Chief Minister Shah and Governor Ishratul Ebad, the Interior Minister said that law enforcement agencies would crackdown on extortionists, kidnappers, target killer and other criminals.
The minister said that Rangers would play a key role in the operation with the assistance of police.
Nisar said that DG Rangers would lead an operational committee during the operation. IG Sindh and officials of intelligence agencies would also be part of this committee. It would meet daily to discuss the situation.
He said that neither IGP was changed nor Chief Secretary, saying that any decision in this regard would be taken in consultation with the provincial government.
The interior minister said that a committee under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah would be set up to oversee the operation.
He said that the Sindh government had the mandate to take decisions on Karachi. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif spent two days in Karachi to review the law and order.
The interior minister said that all decisions taken by the cabinet would be implemented.
