Taliban attacks Kabul International Airport, all militants killed

KABUL, Afghanistan: An exchange of fire between the security forces and the Taliban militants ended resulting in the death of all the attackers who carried out an assault on the International Airport in Kabul on Thursday.

“The attack is over, and the area is cleared from the insurgents. All the insurgents who were holed up in an under-construction building were killed,” a senior police official Gul Agha Hashimi said.

A general in the Afghan army in Kabul Afzal Aman said that the militants occupied two buildings, which were under construction, 700 meters north of the airport, using them as a base to fire shots with automatic weapons and launch rocket-propelled grenades toward the airport.

The Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the attack.

“A number of our mujahedeen armed with heavy and light weapons have launched an attack on Kabul International Airport,” the spokesman for the Taliban militants Zabiuhallah Mujahid said earlier in a statement.
