PakistanTajik president to arrive in Islamabad on Nov 11

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon will arrive in Islamabad on a two-day official visit to Pakistan on Wednesday evening as a part of regular high-level exchanges between the two brotherly countries.

His visit will officially begin on November 12 (Thursday) and continue till November 13.

The Tajik president’s visit will be undertaken at the invitation of the Prime Minster of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif who earlier in June 2015 had visited the Central Asian country and held talks with the Tajik leadership to discuss matters of bilateral interest and ways to expand mutual cooperation in various fields.

It will be Emomali Rahmon’s sixth visit to Pakistan as the Tajik president, and he will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers and other senior officials.

A number of leading businessmen of Tajikistan would also accompany the president.

The Tajik president will hold separate meetings with his Pakistani counterpart Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“The visit is of greater significance, especially in the context of the shared desire to enhance cooperation in political, economic, energy, infrastructure development for rail and road links, air connectivity, social, human resource development and cultural spheres, defence and security relations,” the Foreign Office spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said in a statement in Islamabad on Monday.

“CASA-1000, a project of regional energy cooperation among Tajikistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan, would be another major area of cooperation that would come under discussion.”

Pakistan was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with the brotherly country of Tajikistan soon after its independence in 1991.

The bilateral relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan are based on mutual respect, shared interests and brotherhood and have been growing positively and steadily over the years.

During his two-day stay in Dushanbe on June 8-9, Sharif held meetings with the Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda at which he underlined the need for making collective efforts to increase Pakistan-Tajikistan bilateral trade.
