PakistanTahirul Qadri’s petition in SC could delay election: Aitzaz Ahsan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) senior leader Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said on Friday that petition filed by Dr. Tahirul Qadri in the Supreme Court seeking reconstitution of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) could delay the elections, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

“If Dr. Tahir ul Qadri’s petition is admitted by the Supreme Court for hearing, there is possibility of elections’ delay,” Aitzaz opined while talking to media outside the apex court on Friday.

Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said that Qadri reneged on his agreement with the government by calling for the reconstitution of the ECP.

Ahsan was of the view that it wasn’t possible to constitutionally remove any member of the ECP in its present form or to constitute the commission anew.
