Asadabad, Afghanistan: Over 30 people are feared to dead in a suicide attack in Shaheedan Square Asadabad.
Asadabad is the provincial capital of Kunar province where situation is going out of hands of Afghan security agencies since long.
According to initial reports, a suicide bomber detonated himself near Governor House and the majority of victims were women and children who were playing in the park adjacent to Governor House building.
Afghan radio reported that a former commander of Hezbi Islami is among dead persons. It may be mentioned that locality is known for residential area of government officials working in government departments that are located close to the site.
Asadabad is the capital city of Kunar Province in Afghanistan and located in the eastern part of Afghanistan adjacent to Pakistan. The city is located within a valley at the confluence of the Pech River and Kunar River between two mountain ridgelines running along both sides of the valley from Northeast to Southwest. Asadabad is in a mountainous region of the Hindu Kush mountains about 13 km (eight miles) northwest of the Pakistani border and 80 km (50 miles) northeast of Jalalabad, Afghanistan.
This region is known for hosting terrorists of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who have taken refuge in mountain ridgelines of this area and chief of TTP Mullah Fazlullah was recently injured in a road accident in same area near Pech River.
