Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 7 wickets & level test series 1-1

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by seven wickets in the second test match at the P Sara Oval in Colombo on Monday to level the three-match series 1-1.

On the last and fifth day of the match, Sri Lanka required just 152 runs to clinch victory against Pakistan which they did after losing just three wickets.

In the second innings, the Sri Lankan openers FDM Karunaratne and KDK Vithanage scored 50 and 34 runs respectively. The middle-order batsman KC Sangakkara got out without scoring any run while the Captain AD Mathews scored 43 runs and HDRL Thirimanne scored 20 runs, and both remained not out.

For Pakistan, all three wickets were taken by spinners as Yasir Shah grabbed two wickets whereas Zulfiqar Babar took one.

The Sri Lankan all-rounder Dhammika Prasad was declared man of the match.

The boys showed a lot of character after the defeat in Galle,” the Sri Lankan Captain Angelo Mathews said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

We wanted to bat positively because we were not sure about the rain. So we gave green signal to play positively. It’s easy to get bogged down. The conditions were helpful, I liked bowling here. Kushal Silva is playing the anchor role and others are playing around him,” he said.

The third and final test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be played from July 3 to 7 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

The test series will be followed by five-match One-Day International (ODI) series which will begin from July 11 and will continue till July 26.

In the end of the bilateral series, two T20 internationals will also be played between the two sides at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on July 30 and August 1 respectively.
