Spread of new COVID variant Omicron alarmingly fast: Asad Umar

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chairman National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) Asad Umar has said that the spread of the new COVID variant Omicron is alarmingly fast, and urged the people to get fully vaccinated at the earliest to stay safe from the new variant.

While addressing a News Conference in Islamabad on Monday along with the Special Assistant on Health Services Dr. Faisal Sultan, Asad Umar said that 50 million people have been fully vaccinated while 30 million have received vaccine partially.

The Chairman NCOC said that the COVID testing will be increased and the vaccination campaign will be boosted to avoid any adverse effects of the new variant. He said that the booster vaccine program will be finalized till tomorrow.

Speaking on the occasion, Faisal Sultan said that mostly the spread of new variant is fast in the areas where people are not vaccinated.

Dr. Faisal Sultan said that the fast spread of the virus may affect our health system and we may face a shortage of beds and other required equipment.

The Special Assistant asked the people to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to minimize the spread of new variant.

Meanwhile, according to the NCOC data, 9 people died of Coronavirus while 176 people tested positive across the Country on November 28.
