SHARJAH: South Africa beat Pakistan by one run in the first day-night international in Sharjah on Wednesday, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Imran Tahir and Parnell grabbed three wickets each followed by two wickets each by Tsotsobe and Morkel. While Ahmed Shehzad was the highest scorer with 58 runs with five fours followed by 31 of Misbah and 28 runs hit by Hafeez.

Earlier, the Proteas captain AB de Villiers won the toss and chose to bat first. The entire team collapsed at meager 183 in 49.5 overs.

Bowler Muhammad Irfan took the first wicket paving the way for Saeed Ajmal and Shahid Afridi who took seven wickets.
