KARACHI: The Sindh Police will be provided special vehicles and explosive detectors to improve and enhance their capabilities to fight terrorists.
It was decided in a high-level meeting that was held at the Chief Minister House in Karachi on Thursday to review law and order situation in the city.
The meeting, which was jointly chaired by Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, also decided to provide bulletproof vehicles‚ jackets and helmets to the police urgently.
During the meeting, a committee was also constituted to keep liaison between the federal and provincial governments with regard to targeted operation.
The federal interior minister asked to devise a strategy on weekly basis for the operation against terrorists.
The interior minister said that terrorist activities are posing a great risk to the nation and the federal and provincial governments are on same page to deal with this menace.
Nisar said that the people who are fighting these terrorists are our heroes. He said that the Rangers and Police have achieved great success in the targeted operation.
The minister said that said the sacrifices they rendered while discharging their duty will never be forgotten. He also lauded the successes of Rangers‚ Police and intelligence agencies in bringing peace to the city.
MQM delegation meets interior minister
Earlier, a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) delegation met with interior minister at Governor House in Karachi and conveyed their reservations regarding ongoing Karachi operation.
In the meeting, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Director General Rangers Major General Rizwan Akhter were also present.
The source said that the MQM delegation comprised of Haider Abbas Rizvi, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Adil Siddiqui and Qamar Naveed presented a list of their party activists who they claimed were illegally pickled up by the law enforcement authorities.
The delegation also showed pictures of tortured bodies of their activists, who they claimed were picked up by the agencies and then later found dead, the sources added.
The interior minister assured the MQM delegation that ongoing operation was not against the party and their reservations would soon be addressed.
