ISLAMABAD: Sindh police on Tuesday admitted before the Supreme Court of Pakistan that there are seven partial no-go areas in Karachi.
A five-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, heard the Karachi unrest implementation case.
The CJ said that the court had ordered that there shouldn’t be any no-go area in the city, adding even partial no-go area is a no-go area.
Shah Khawar, Sindh government counsel, informed that SHOs of 109 police stations have submitted affidavits, adding the submitted report was prepared on the basis of their affidavits.
He said that in district Malir areas like Sachal, Sohrab Goth and in South Kalakot and Chakiwara whereas in district West Pirabad and Mangopir and PIB Colony in district East are some of the no-go areas.
During the hearing a letter written by ex-Senator of the MQM Nasreen Jalil was also readout in the court in which it was claimed that Taliban are getting hold of several areas of Karachi and that political leaders from MQM and other parties including Pervez Musharraf are getting life threats.
The CJ inquired what steps were taken to deal with such elements during the last five years. Justice Aijaz Chaudhry remarked that those who have written the letter are in power for the last twenty years, adding they have failed to do anything and now they are writing letters to the Supreme Court.
The hearing is in progress.
