KARACHI: The Sindh assembly is likely to be dissolved tonight after Sindh government and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) reached a consensus on the name of Justice (retd) Zahid Qurban Alvi for the slot of caretaker chief minister Sindh, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Tuesday.

The provincial assembly would be dissolved at 12am tonight, spokesman to the CM House said, adding that the CM’s advice for dissolution of the provincial assembly is expected to be moved today.

Major political parties of Sindh have reached an agreement over the name of Justice (rted) Zahid Qurban Alvi for the position of caretaker chief minister of the province, the sources said.

The major chunk of the provincial cabinet will come from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and MQM.

The sources said that the PPP has put forward nine names for the cabinet including Zia Lanjar, Agha Wasi Durrani, Fauzia Jaffery, Fazlur Rehman, former Corps Commander Sindh General (rted) Ehsan, Dr. Amjad Memon, Shujaat Ali Jakhrani, Umar Abbas Jilani and Fida Hussain.

Meantime, the MQM’s Barrister Habibur Rehman, Shujaat Ali Baig, Nadirah Punjwani and Advocate Qazi Khalid are expected to be in the caretaker setup in Sindh.

In addition, the caretaker dispensation will also include Pir Riyaz Gul from the Awami National Party and Shahid Ghouri from the Sunni Tehreek.
