ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada on Wednesday assured the Upper House of early implementation of Urdu as an official language.
During the question-hour, he said, the Prime Minister had approved measures for the enforcement of Urdu as an official language in the light of recommendations presented by the National Language Authority.
He said, the Cabinet Division had already issued directions to the heads of all departments for implementation of these measures.
To a supplementary question, the minister said a committee, consisting of Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Federal Minister for Housing Akram Khan Durrani, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer, Special Assistants to the PM Irfan Siddiqui and Barrister Zafarullah Khan, and the Secretary Ministry of Information, was in place for implementation of Urdu .
He said the first meeting of the committee was held on September 14, 2015, wherein it discussed not only implementation of Urdu but also the proposals with regard to its monitoring.
“These measures show that the government is intensely serious regarding implementation of Urdu as official language,” he added.
