ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani on Friday took notice of the incidents of death of children by pneumonia and malnutrition in Tharparkar district of Sindh province.

Justice Jillani constituted a three-member committee and fixed the hearing of the case on Monday. He directed the Sindh government and authorities concerned to submit report about the issue.

The media reports from Mithi, the capital of Tharparkar, stated that 121 children have lost their lives because of famine and malnutrition in the district.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Army has dispatched food bags for the drought-hit people of Tharparkar.

In a statement, the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) said that a medical team comprising lady doctors and paramedics has also been sent to the area for treatment of the affected people.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also took serious notice of death of children in Tharparkar district and directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to immediately get in touch with authorities in Sindh and provide all possible aid and assistance.

The Sindh government ordered an investigation and the arrest of senior health officials for neglecting their duties.

“It is a very serious matter and we have deputed a senior member of the party and officials to probe into the deaths,” Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah told reporters.
