CrimeSC rejects IG Islamabad’s appeal in Musharraf escape case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Thursday disposed off the petition filed by Islamabad’s Inspector General of police against the verdict issued by Islamabad High Court and ordered the Interior Ministry to hold an independent inquiry into the matter keeping in view the IHC’s earlier directives over the case.

The IG Islamabad Bin Amin Khan had challenged the decision of the IHC in the Supreme Court a day after IHC ordered to take action against him within 24 hours for failure to arrest former military rule Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf immediately after the cancellation of his protective bail on April 18.

Bin Amin had blamed the Rangers over the incident and plead to the apex court that they were not expecting that the Rangers, deputed inside the IHC for security purpose, would become helpful in his escape.

On Wednesday, his counsel admitted that around 200 Rangers and the SSG commandos, guising as advocates, were present inside the high court when Musharraf appeared.
