Elections 2013LB polls in Sindh to be held on December 7: ECP

ISLAMABAD: the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday decided to hold local bodies elections in Sindh on December 7.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the ECP regarding holding of local bodies elections in Islamabad.

Earlier‚ the Supreme Court of Pakistan authorized the ECP to decide about extending date of local bodies elections in Sindh to December 7.

The Sindh government pleaded in the apex court that it is difficult to hold local bodies elections in the province on November 27 due to Muharram holidays.

The apex court said that local bodies elections will be held on December 7 in Balochistan and Punjab provinces and if the ECP considers feasible‚ it can extend the date for Sindh province till December 7.

The court said that holding local bodies elections is constitutional responsibility of provincial governments.

Meanwhile, the process of filing of nomination papers for the local bodies elections in Sindh and Punjab began today.
