ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday directed to hold local bodies and cantonment boards elections at all cost by December 27, adding that if the concerned governments failed to hold these elections in the stipulated period‚ the court will restore old local government system.

In its interim order issued on Tuesday‚ the apex court said no more extension can be given in this regard and the court has already give extension many times.

The apex court directed that the local bodies elections must be held on the dates proposed by the concerned provincial governments. It said that if the concerned governments failed to hold these elections in the stipulated period‚ the court will restore old local government system.

Moreover, the court also directed the federal government to submit its reply regarding elections in cantonment areas within 7 days.
