Supreme Court directs Audit General to conduct audit of DHA Lahore

Lahore, Pakistan: The Supreme Court Lahore, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday directed the Auditor General of Pakistan to conduct audit of Defence Housing Authority (DHA)Lahore Office and submit comprehensive reports in this regard till October 28.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Qazi Faez Isa heard the case. During the course of proceedings, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan asked the Additional Attorney General whether the audit of DHA Lahore department was conducted as it was directed by the apex court on previous hearing.   The Additional Attorney General informed the court that he was not aware if the audit of DHA Lahore office was conducted or not.

A representative of the Auditor General told the bench that the AGP office had written letters to DHA Lahore and other departments for audit of accounts but their responses were not received yet. He appraised the court that the department would start audit proceedings after receiving replies from these departments. The court directed the AGP office to submit reports till October 28.

Defence Housing Authorities owned by Pakistan Army are in criticism since long and it is generally believed that these real estate developers do not follow any land of law and para metres and DHAs are becoming states within the state.

There are many cases pending in courts about DHAs but no concrete decision has ever come that can clamp and ask these real estate developers to honour laws of Pakistan.

DHA in Lahore and in many more cities of Pakistan are having their own road tax systems, police like security and even blocked public roads and made walls to deny right to people to cross from DHAs though these roads are older than DHA schemes.

Supreme Court is hearing many such cases in which DHAs have allegedly surpassed rule of law and revenue laws.
