ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday declared the appointment of retired Air Marshal Khalid Chaudhry as Director General Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) null and void.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed announced its verdict in a case regarding delay in the construction of new Islamabad Airport on Wednesday.
The bench said that the appointment of Khalid Chaudhry as Director General Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was illegal.
During the proceedings, Secretary CAA Muhammad Ali Gardezi informed the court that the project of new Islamabad Airport did not exist and that issue of alleged embezzlement has been handed over to FIA for investigation. He said there was no water, electricity and road at the place, allegedly allocated for new the project.
