LAHORE: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) central leader Farooq Sattar on Sunday said that Karachi could have been saved from the collapse of infrastructure during rains had there been a system of local government.

“Rains would not have devastated Karachi’s infrastructure to such extent had there been elected local bodies in the city,” Sattar spoke to reporters at Lahore airport, hours after his party chief Altaf Hussain called for appointment of Mustafa Kamal and Kunwar Naveed Jamil as temporary administrators in Karachi and Hyderabad for tackling the rain-caused miseries.

MQM leaders Mustafa Kamal and Kunvar Naveed have respectively served as nazims of Karachi and Hyderabad in the past.

Keeping their past services in view, the MQM chief has offered their services to Sindh regime on temporary basis to control rain caused difficulties to the people of Karachi and Hyderabad.

In the meantime, the Sindh Chief Minister removed KMC administrator Hashim Raza Zaidi for his failure to meet the challenges in the wake of heavy pour which wreaked havoc on city infrastructure.

The Sindh government has restored Senior Director of Municipal Services, Masood Alam.
