North AmericaSartaj says US recognizes need to advance bilateral ties with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs‚ Sartaj Aziz said Washington also recognizes the need to advance ties with Islamabad on bilateral potential.

He said the relationship between the two sides is important enough to stand on its own.

Sartaj said US Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent visit to Pakistan also helped towards bridging mutual trust deficit.

To a question‚ he said Islamabad and Washington are working more in coordination to see that the Afghan reconciliation process moves forward.

He said both the sides agreed that it should be an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned process and no one should try to orchestrate it from outside.

He said it is important that different Afghan groups‚ particularly the Afghan High Peace Council and the Taliban talk to each other in Doha‚ Dubai and Istanbul or anywhere.

Responding to a question‚ the Advisor said there has been a lot of progress towards improving relations between Pakistan and India since the inception of new government in Islamabad.

He said the two sides have agreed to resume the composite dialogue.
