LAHORE, Pakistan: Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has been nominated as the candidate of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the slot of Speaker National Assembly.
His nomination was made by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif when Sadiq met him at Raiwind in Lahore on Saturday.
The prime minister applauded the role of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in upholding democratic traditions in the Parliament and expressed the confidence that he will maintain those standards in coming years.
The election for the Speaker National Assembly will be held on Monday, at which Sadiq will compete with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Shafqat Mehmood.
The nomination papers to contest the election for Speaker National Assembly will be submitted and examined on Sunday.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has already secured the support of the main opposition in the House, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
The seat of the National Assembly Speaker became vacant after the Election Tribunal in Lahore on August 22 in its verdict regarding the alleged rigging in Lahore’s NA-122 constituency, disqualified Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Later by-election was held in the constituency which was won by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq by a thin margin of 2,400 against PTI’s Aleem Khan.
