ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday nominated provincial president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawab Sanaullah Zehri as next Chief Minister of Balochistan.

The decision has been taken by the prime minister in light of the Murree Declaration and after consulting his allies, a statement from the PM House said.

The prime minister said that Balochistan was close to his heart and expressed the hope that the new Chief Minister would ensure peace and security in the province.

Sharif said that the federal government would extend full support to him in the progress and development of Balochistan.

Earlier, National Party’s (NP) Dr Abdul Malik remained the Chief Minister of Balochistan for two and half years under an agreement reached between the relevant stakeholders after the 2013 general elections. There is a coalition government in the province comprising the PML-N, NP and Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP).

Nawaz vows to speed up development activities in Balochistan

Earlier in the day, talking to the students of Mastung Cadet College in Islamabad, the prime minister vowed to further speed up development activities in Balochistan province.

The prime minister said that peace has gradually been restored to the province.

“Today’s Balochistan is far better as compared to previous years,” he said.

Nawaz Sharif pointed out that a coalition government is working in the province and the federation is giving all necessary resources to the province to carry out the development activities.

Emphasizing the need for promoting the environment of brotherhood, the prime minister said that several road infrastructure projects are under construction from Gwadar to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In addition, he said that Balochistan is as dear to him as any other area of the country and quality education institutions including medical colleges and university will be constructed in the province.

The prime minister also announced Rs20 million grant for cadet college Mastung.
